Billing, Renewal & Refund Policy

Last updated: August 5, 2026

Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. This page states exactly what you are agreeing to be charged, when, how to stop it, and when money comes back.

Automatic renewal — please read

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of every billing period, and the payment method on file is charged the then-current price for the next period, until you cancel. Monthly plans renew every month. Annual plans renew every twelve months. You may cancel at any time, without a fee and without contacting us, from Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for.

1. Free trial

New customers may start a 14-day free trial of the Professional plan. No payment method is required to begin the trial and no charge is made during it. We do not convert a trial into a paid subscription automatically: if you do not choose a paid plan before the trial ends, access to paid features is downgraded rather than billed.

One trial per firm. Creating additional workspaces to obtain successive trials breaches the Acceptable Use Policy.

2. Fees, billing period & payment

  • Fees are stated on the pricing page in U.S. dollars and are charged in U.S. dollars.
  • Subscriptions are billed in advance for the period beginning on the date of purchase — monthly on the same day each month, or annually on the same date each year. Where a month has no corresponding day, the charge falls on the last day of that month.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers. You authorise us and Stripe to charge the payment method on file for all amounts due, including renewals, until you cancel.
  • Seat changes mid-period are prorated. Added seats are charged for the remainder of the current period; removed seats take effect at the next renewal.
  • Fees are exclusive of taxes. You are responsible for any sales, use, VAT, GST, or similar taxes, other than taxes on our income.

3. Automatic renewal & the notice you will receive

Unless cancelled, each subscription renews for a further period of the same length at the price then in effect for your plan, and the payment method on file is charged on the renewal date.

  • Annual plans. We send a renewal reminder by email to the firm administrator at least 30 days before the renewal date, stating the renewal date, the amount, and how to cancel.
  • Price changes. We give at least 30 days' notice of a price increase. Increases take effect at your next renewal, so you always have the opportunity to cancel first.
  • Receipts. Every charge produces an emailed invoice. Invoices are also available in Settings → Billing.

These commitments reflect our obligations under Florida's automatic renewal statute (section 501.0605, FloridaStatutes), the federal Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act, and equivalent automatic renewal laws in other states, including California. Where a state law that applies to you requires more than this page provides, that law governs.

4. How to cancel

Cancellation is self-service and takes effect immediately on request. You do not need to call us, write to us, or explain yourself.

  • Go to Settings → Billing and select Cancel subscription. You will receive an email confirming the cancellation and the date access ends.
  • If you cannot reach the billing screen — for example, because you have lost access to the account — email billing@elawplatform.com from the address on the account and we will process it. We will not require you to accept a retention offer first.

Effect.Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for; it is not cut short, and no further charge is made. After that date the workspace is downgraded. Data handling after cancellation is described in section 7.

5. Refunds

Subscription fees are charged in advance for a period of access and are non-refundable, except as set out below or as required by law. We do not refund partial periods, unused seats, or unused capacity, and cancelling mid-period does not generate a credit.

We will issue a refund in these cases:

  • Duplicate or mistaken charge. Charged twice, charged after a valid cancellation, or charged an amount that does not match your plan — refunded in full, promptly, on request or on our own detection.
  • Renewal you did not intend, reported quickly. If you tell us within 14 days of an annual renewal that you did not intend to renew, and the workspace has had no material use in that window, we refund the renewal in full and close the subscription.
  • Extended unavailability. Where we owe you service credits under the Service Level Agreement, those credits are applied as described there.
  • Termination by us without cause. If we discontinue the Service or terminate your subscription other than for your breach, we refund the unused portion of any prepaid fee on a pro-rata basis.
  • Where the law requires it. Including any statutory cooling-off or cancellation right that applies to you.

No refund is due where a subscription is terminated for breach of the Terms of Service or the Acceptable Use Policy.

Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method. Our processing takes up to five business days; how quickly it then appears is a matter for your bank, typically a further five to ten business days.

6. Billing questions & chargebacks

If a charge looks wrong, email billing@elawplatform.com within 60 days of the invoice date and we will investigate and respond within five business days. Almost every billing dispute is faster to resolve this way than through a card network.

Initiating a chargeback without contacting us first may result in suspension of the workspace until the dispute is resolved, because the card network requires the charge to be reversed while it is adjudicated. We do not treat a good-faith dispute as a breach.

7. Failed payments, downgrade & your data

If a renewal payment fails, we retry over a period of up to 14 days and notify the firm administrator each time. If payment is not completed, the workspace is downgraded — it is not immediately deleted.

After cancellation or downgrade you keep the ability to sign in, view, and export your documents and conversations for 30 days. Customer data is then deleted from production systems on the schedule in the Privacy Policy. Export your material before that window closes; we cannot restore data once it has been purged.

8. Enterprise & custom terms

Enterprise subscriptions may be governed by a signed order form or master agreement with different payment, renewal, notice, or refund terms. Where such a document exists, it prevails over this page for that customer. Enquiries: enterprise@elawplatform.com.
